Patient-Centered Pediatric Research Program Fellowship

The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, in affiliation with The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, has openings for post-doctoral fellows in the Patient-Centered Pediatric Research Program (PC-PReP) starting Summer/Autumn 2023.

Program features

PC-PReP provides advanced training to help post-doctoral fellows become leaders in community-engaged research with children at high risk for health disparities and poor outcomes. We emphasize research involving children with medical complexities and from socially and economically disadvantaged groups. Fellows will receive training in research methods, grant writing, and academic career development. They will also develop and conduct at least one research project with a faculty mentor leading to publications, national presentations, and an external funding proposal.

Our close working relationship with the Ohio State University allows for expanded training and collaboration beyond the College of Medicine with the Colleges of Public Health, Business, Nursing, Psychology Dept, and others. All faculty have academic appointments with Ohio State University.

  • Neuroimaging, neuropsychology, behavioral development, Autism
  • Psychosocial outcomes related to pediatric illness (cancer, IBD, congenital heart disease, craniofacial conditions)
  • Depression and suicide
  • Behavioral economics applied to health outcomes
  • Biological mechanisms of stress and psychopathology
  • Health literacy and self-management in chronic illness
  • Health disparities and equity
  • Fertility and reproductive health in at-risk pediatric populations
  • Pediatric trauma outcomes and injury prevention
  • Interventions promoting resilience in chronic illness
  • Nutrition, physical activity, and other health behaviors
  • Palliative care and bereavement

Candidates are expected to have completed their doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD) by the start date and must have pediatric research interests aligned with one or more program faculty. Participating faculty are from the Center for Biobehavioral Health, Center for Injury Research and Policy, and Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research.

All fellowships are assumed to be 2 years in duration. Dedicated funding support is also available for Fellows from under represented backgrounds from our new Postdoctoral Fellowship for Academic Diversity (PFAD).
